Artist Statement

As a yogi I believe in the unification of the body, the breath, and the mind. When these three elements are unified, the individual is able to transcend the mind.  While I practice yoga I seek to receive energies from the sun, the moon and to move my body into different positions that are inspired by animals and different elements found in nature.  As a female I believe in the importance of being true to myself and embracing all of my feminine qualities.  My artwork focuses on the unity of feminine energy and the energies found in nature.  I express feminine energy through gentle, yet explicit lines and shapes to show the curvature of the female body.  Throughout my artwork, the female figure represents the beauty and grace of women, in addition to the confidence and strength that all women possess.  I illuminate energies in nature, such as the sun, the moon, plant and animal life, bodies of water, and more.  I am inspired by the energy we feel from the sun everyday and the energy we receive from the moon and stars every night.  As we walk through life and view the world, we take in the beautiful colors of floral and plant life. We drink the nutrients from bodies of water.  We listen to the sounds and watch the actions of animals. We live in harmony with the plants and animals; therefore, we are experiencing these energies together.

My artwork is made into drawings, paintings, and prints.  I work with ink pens to draw and create gentle lines and curves on paper and clothe. My watercolor pieces express the fluidity of colors in nature and add emotion to the feminine figures.  I have a series of acrylic paintings on unstretched canvas.  Using unstretched canvas as the base for my paintings gives the artwork an authentic and raw appearance that enriches my vision for the composition of each piece. Acrylic paint allows me to layer the feminine qualities with the natural elements and to create a unified piece of artwork.  The screen-prints I make stem from my drawings and are transformed onto fabric, such as regular cotton tops to denim pants and jackets.  The prints that appear of female clothing express the grace and power of women, the unity of feminine energy and energies found in nature, and the gentleness of lines and shapes.  I want women to feel confident and beautiful in the printed clothing I produce.
